How to place an appointment with Dermatologist for a chemical peel?

Should I see my primary physician first for a referral to see the dermatologist? I have seen one dermatologist two years ago for surgery (non-cosmetic). Would I still have to pay full co-pay since I don't suppose my insurance covers cosmetic needs? Thanks. (I'm so confused!)How to place an appointment with Dermatologist for a chemical peel?
Start by calling the office of the dermatologist you saw before.

They can tell you how to get an appointment and a rough idea of what you'll have to pay.

How to find a good dermatologist for acne?

I have had acne since I was a teenager. I went on Accutane when I was 19 and my skin cleared up mostly for a few years until at 26 I started getting full out breakouts again with cysts. I have been to 3 different dermatologists now (since I was a teenager) and none of them has actually been able to get rid of or even ';control'; my acne. I am rather sick of this now that I am 28 and would like to find a doctor that could at least get it down to minimal breaking out. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding a doctor who is actually good at getting rid of acne, as opposed to putting you on the same medicines for years without them doing anything and then charging you for a visit every month? How to find a good dermatologist for acne?
I'm 26 and doing accutane for the second time. Our situations sound a lot alike. This second round of accutane is working wonders just like the first, although not as fast as the first time. I'm not sure if your willing to, but you can do another round of Accutane if you wanted to. Of course with all the hoopla about Accutane and the stupid IPledge program they are more reluctant to prescribe it nowadays. I know the feeling about dermatologists, if I got one more useless prescription for Differin cream or Tetracycline I was going to scream, because it just didn't work for me. I've moved around a lot, and I've found that dermatologists that are more into the cosmetic side of dermatology always fit better for me. They understood more the need for making my skin look better even though it wasn't a medical necessity. How to find a good dermatologist for acne?
WOW... you sound exactly like me. I tried everything and went to a dermatologist who prescribed drugs to take, which helped, but the side effects were NOT for me... I started using pro activ like on tv, but I bought it off of ebay cuz its cheaper, and It worked right away, within 2 weeks all of my cysts were cleared up and I was acne free... I LOVE IT... I only use the lotion and the effects are the same. Good luck to you. I hope this helps, acne is so hard to live with and can leave such terrible emotional scarring.

Post acne marks, will a dermatologist be able to prescribe something to get rid of them?

Or are there any products that WILL get rid of them, that arent too expensive? I have a lot of red dots around my face from post-acne, it looks like the pimple is still there but its just a mark left over.Post acne marks, will a dermatologist be able to prescribe something to get rid of them?

I had the same thing. The best thing to do is just go outside and get a tan, you're skin will shed. Which will ultimately eliminate your acne scars. If your really self conscious about it, you can use clearasil. It's a cream that will blend in with your skin tone. It also helps prevent more acne from taking place in that spot. Their pretty cheap, shopper drugmart sell them for 4$
it's just scars, no pills (that i know of) will do anything for scars, because they're external.

you can get a micro dermabrasion, i heard those work well after a few times.

or just exfoliate, they go away with time.

I don't think I'd go online. Try giving him another call? Or ask friends and look in the Yellowbook!

How can you become a dermatologist AND a psychiatrist?

i was reading something in marie claire and they had an in house dermatologist AND psychiatrist. how do you become both without going to 20 years of school? is it possible? How can you become a dermatologist AND a psychiatrist?
;) I believe that a person can subspecialize in derm and/or psychiatry. I'm not sure how the residency would work or how long it would be for each though there are some physicians that work as a family dr and subspecialize or have a couple of specialities. I am wondering though if the magazine has one dr or actually two.

Med school is supposed to be quite competitive to gain acceptance so I would really try to choose one specialty to begin with, know what I mean. Perhaps you can go for 'internal medicine' which is similar to a family practitioner and subspecialize in either derm or psychiatry. Just don't want you to get so overwhelmed :)

Like if I was to say that I hardly use the stuff I buy at the store. This is my first appointment ever, 16yrs old, what do most derms give you?Whats the chances of my dermatologist perscribing Oral medication vs. aboral medications?
Most will give you a topical combination antibiotic or something with sulfur in it.

Something oral, such as accutane, is more serious b/c of the risk of depression and suicide, and if one gets pregnant while taking accutane the baby will be deformed.

The Dr will most likely give you a topical cream

How many years of school does it take to become a dermatologist?

I want a master's degree in it. Not including a 4 year college, how long would I be in Med school?? What are some good med schools? How many years of school does it take to become a dermatologist?
Sorry, you can't get a masters in dermatology - a dermatology is a specialized doctor. That's 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and 5 years of residency (training). Top med schools include Johns Hopkins, Harvard, UPenn, Stanford, and U Washington St. Louis, along with 126 other schools. You don't need to do your undergrad somewhere to go to med school there, and you don't need to look for a program specializing in dermatology until your residency.

Is it normal to feel embarrassed when going to see a dermatologist about acne?

idk, im just really selfconsious about my skin...i dont like people looking at it...oh well...i just wanted to know if other people felt the same way.

also. what are some of the best acne prescription medications?

AND ho can a dermatologist tell which medication is right for YOUR skin?Is it normal to feel embarrassed when going to see a dermatologist about acne?
Yes I would feel embarrassed too, its only natural. But you have to understand Dermatologists see all kinds of different problems everyday. and I'm sure some are wayyyy worse than acne. I'm sure they understand, after all that's why they are in that field, to help people with their problems. Just feel comfortable in your skin.Is it normal to feel embarrassed when going to see a dermatologist about acne?
well you shouldnt feel nervous since you'll probably see some other ppl with the same problem i wasnt nervous at all.Well for medication they might give pills but i never took them since i heard they are bad so instead she gave me a cream called benzaclin that i use daily and at night i use retin a micro. My face cleard up really well i about 2 months it will get worse b4 it gets better just stick to what they give you and good luck
    Don't worry, these people won't be surprised or anything that's their job to look at acne- infested skin. Theres nothing to be embarrassed of and just think ';it'll be over soon, then I'll have my whatever';
You might feel embarrassed because you're there for them to point out your flaws.

They know because they test different things about your skin. Like if it's oily or dry.
yeah i hate people like analizing my face...i dont know anyone who does

How do I get my parents to take me to the dermatologist.?

Okay, So I have acne that doesn't seem to clear up.

And my parents just say it is a teenage thing, that will it will go away if you wash your face twice a day, and I do. I had acne for about 1 year and 1/2.

I know acne is like a teenage thing but I would really like to go to a dermatologist to see what they say.

How do I convince my parents to take me to the dermatologist? How do I get my parents to take me to the dermatologist.?
Print pictures of people with acne scars that are really bad and put them on the refrigerator. Acne can cause scarring even if you try to treat it and you don't pick and pop zits. Here's some : http://www.skincarephysicians.com/acnene鈥?/a>

Call your insurance company (the number is on the back of the card) and see what dermatologists are covered in your area. You can take this info to your parents. It'd be easier for them to say yes when you already know the who, what, where etc.

Explain to them that it's hurting your self esteem, making you feel unattractive and everything. Cry. Don't whine, but cry like it's really bothering you.

Also tell them that yeah, acne is a teenage thing, but diaper rash is also a baby thing, but when it gets too bad or doesn't go away, people take their babies to the doctor. Same goes with blood pressure. It's a human thing, but when it gets high, it's bad and people go to the doctor. Same goes for blood sugar. They're your parents and they should want you to be healthy. Dermatologists are doctors, and doctors are there to make you healthy.

P.S. I use persagel from clean and clear, and it works WELL for me. It's quite strong, but it works great. I suggest you try that or any other acne drug that says it has an active ingredient of 10% benzoyl peroxide (a lot have benzoyl peroxide, but 10% is strong)

Good luck. How do I get my parents to take me to the dermatologist.?
Oh well, perhaps you should have been a little more clear in your question detail then. If you really have tried ';everything';, which I doubt, I'd say there's no hope. Report Abuse

I also don't think my answer is worth one star. No ';thanks anyway'; or anything, but you're welcome for me taking the time to research and answer you. Maybe you're just upset you can't always get what you want. :) Report Abuse

Tell them that you've had it for over a year and that it's not getting any better. Yes, acne in a teenage thing, but some peoples are worse than others, so they need to use prescribed treatment for it. If your parents still don't take you, ask a relative to take you.
do your homework. look up teenage acne on as many websites as possible. show them what you learned and tell tham why it concerns you. it might just be a teenage thing. may not. but you have to show your parents that it is actually a concern of yours.

    start by looking on www.webmd.com

    i hope this helps
    Just say..

    ';Dad..Mom, I NEED to go to a dermatologist. This is not just a teenage thing. It's not going to go away on it's own. Please take me. If you care about me, you'd make me an appointment.';

    =) Hopefully they give in.
just say that you feel that you really need to go see one and that you believe thats what you need to do....or use good face wash

How can I convince my mom to take me to a dermatologist?

im 15 and I have a few skin problems, but my mom hates the idea of taking me to the doctor. she just says it'll go away by itself. What do i say so that she'll take me to the derm? How can I convince my mom to take me to a dermatologist?
I'm sure that a main reason why your mom doesn't want to take you to a specialist is a financial one. So, after all your pleading and telling her how much you want/need to go, and your self esteem, etc etc, you might want to know exactly how much it's going to cost the family budget to have you see the doctor. It may be that you'll agree to work off a percentage of the copay, and at that point, she'll see that it's important to you to go. Plus, it might be just the thing to help out with the family budget. The amount that your family will pay should be on your health insurance card, under the heading of specialist. Good luck. How can I convince my mom to take me to a dermatologist?
Let her know thats it's something important to you.

And that it would make you feel more confident in yourself if she takes you.

    Try it out :-)

What's the likelihood that my acne will be sorted if I go to the local dermatologist?

The GP I went to see gave me two boxes of tablets and Freederm and said there could be a change. If there is no change, I'll have to go to a dermatologist. Are dermatologists usually good at sorting this kinda thing? What's the likelihood that my acne will be sorted if I go to the local dermatologist?
Yes a good one should be! They have done years of extra studying in this particular area and specialities like dermatology are very competitive so they have to know their stuff. They will most likely put you on roacutane or antibiotics.

good luck! What's the likelihood that my acne will be sorted if I go to the local dermatologist?
firstof all how old are you.could be a normal thing. get with your parents and see how they faired in the zit thing. then look at your soaps and body washes. my mom had acne until her late 30s. i get it a little and i am in my 40's. so you might want to consult your parents. go see a doc if you want but they cannot beat genetics. some things just take time. we all had the acne thing going for us when we were in our teens early twenties.
Ya but in my experience DONT TAKE ACUTAINE!!! One of the biggest regrets of my life. I just went in for basic like face acne. I mean I didnt have it too bad but wanted it to be sure. And well my freaking back exploded!!! Like no joke. I got these zitsx1000. It destroyed my back and left huge scare so deep they cant even be like removed by surgery. And I never had back acne before I took it. Ughhh getting mad just thinking about it!!!
absolutely, you probably should have gone there in the first place.
well they are experts there so if it isn't going to go away, they wouldn't charge money
Well, hate to tell you this, but skin products and antibiotics (which is what doctors give you) only push back SYMPTOMS for a little while (the further the less), they don't eliminate the CAUSE of the condition. And it's good for doctors 'cause this way you'll always be coming back for more and stronger (and more expensive) drugs.

Your acne is just an alarm bell of things going wrong in your system, so instead of covering it up you should try and get things straight.

    Here's how.

First thing, you've got to remove all caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, soda and also alcohol from your diet. (You may reintroduce moderate amounts of those later on when you get better, but not now.)

Secondly, you've got to drink no less than 2 quarts of water DAILY. This is what your body requires, this is what you don't supply, this is (mostly) why you have the problem. In your case it's about skin, in somebody else's it might be whatever else. Drink pure filtered unboiled H2O in 8 to 10 ounce portions right after you get up, 30 minutes before each meal (try to eat 3 moderate meals a day), two and a half hours after each meal, right before going to bed and spread the rest (if any) evenly through the day. And put a little pinch of salt (w/o iodine) on your tongue to dissolve after each glass.

To help battle the problem from the outside you can also use salt water baths. Mix 1 kg of salt (w/o iodine) into a warm bath and get there for 30 minutes before going to bed. Repeat every other 10 days.

Also get more active physically. Get more sun and fresh air. Work up more sweat. At least brisk walk for 30 minutes every day and use stairs instead of elevator whenever possible.

As to your diet, eat moderately, cut down on fat and sugar, never use artificial sweetners, eat more fruit and vegetables, nuts. Opt for natural, simply prepared, not overprocessed foods in general.

I bet you're gonna see things changing in a couple weeks.

Also, you might want to do some additional reading on how important H2O and sodium are to everyday functioning of the body, so check out the links below. Good luck.

Since a dermatologist is a type of doctor, you'll want to pick a major that will get you in to medical school. Most universities have a pre-med ';track,'; which lists the coursework you will need to need to take in order to get in/be successful at medical school. In theory you can pick any major, but all of my friends in medical school were either biology or chemistry majors.

  • Will going to a dermatologist actually help my acne?

It seems like I've tried everythinggg for my acne but nothing works! One of my friends who has also has acne went to a dermatologist and said that it didn't really help him. Will going to see a dermatologist help to finally clear my skin or is it just a waste of time? Will going to a dermatologist actually help my acne?
YES! Or at least it did for me! I used to have terrible terrible acne, but after going to the derm it cleared up! The results aren't instant, so what might have happened to your friend could have been he wasn't patient, or he didn't follow the regimen his derm gave him. I had SUCH bad acne, now it's basically gone. The only bad thing is, it costs $$... Aside from appointment costs, I paid:

Around $100 for a tube of cream (lasted a year)

About $20 for facewash (lasts a few months)

A cream costing slightly less than $100 (lasted a year)

A cream I think was around $50 (lasted a few months)

But it was SO worth it. One of the creams, Retin-A, is used to get rid of wrinkles, freckles, and acne, and it works! I have so many less freckles (yay!) and acne (yay!) and my mom (50) has no wrinkles. Yay!Will going to a dermatologist actually help my acne?
Let's see...how to answer this one. First of all, I'm a dermatologist, so I'd have to say that if you came to me, I know I';d be able to help you out. Now, having said that, not all dermatologists use the same treatments, so perhaps your friend needs to find another dermatologist. The treatment would depend upon your age, gender, severity of the problem, location of the acne, any other diseases you might have or allergies to medicines, the type of acne, etc. Hence, I wouldnt' even think of proposing an acne regimen for you without examining you, and any one who would should be questioned. Yes, by all means, go to a dermatologist in your area.
Wow, you sound like the exact boat I was in a few years ago. I had tried EVERYTHING for my acne (even Proactive, which made my skin even worse) ... it was so bad... like 30 pimples on my face at one time. just horrible. I made an appointment with a derm, but about a week before the appointment, I went to a Mary Kay class and tried a cleanser and moisturizer called Velocity. I used it for 3 days and just noticed such a huge difference. I decided to cancel the derm appointment and kept using Velocity. I couldn't believe the results... my acne just seemed to disappear. It was a miracle.. honestly. I don't even get pimples anymore. If you want to give it a whirl before you go to the derm, visit my website at www.marykay.com/mrwahl. Velocity is the reason I signed up to be a Mary Kay consultant. If it worked for me and others, it will probably work for you. it's worth a shot... could save you hundreds of dollars. Hope this helps!
I've had to try a few different prescriptions before I found one that made a difference. I'm using Tazorac cream now and it's made things a lot better. Look it up online and read the reviews. It takes awhile to work but once it does most people seem satisfied.
no. it won't. it takes forever to get an appt and they'll tell you info that you already know.. go to your doctors and tell them about your acne. i got topical cream and mine was COMPLETELY gone in 2 weeks! and now i only get the ocassional pimple which is fine with me!
Yes, I didn't go to the dermatologist I just went to my regular Doctor and I got some stuff prescribed. And if you have insurance you wont have to spend any money. My face is almost clear and its been about two weeks.
    yes
Sit back... this is a LONG answer, but I wanted to help you out! I know it can be frustrating. This REALLY works!! I tryed it and it work so good!!

Gather all materials beforehand -- see ';Things You'll Need'; below. You might want to store them in a waterproof resealable bag, such as Ziploc. I'd recommend wearing either old clothes or a bathrobe over whatever you are wearing. There is a definite possibility this is going to spill. After you have found everything on you checklist, head to a large, flat, waterproof surface. This is probably your bathroom. Having this room be private is highly advised; you can't just say, ';Get out, I'm flattening a pimple,'; can you?

    Things You'll Need

    - 3 or more cotton balls

    - Lukewarm tap water

    - Cup to hold the water in

    - Salt

    The Method

    1. Salt the water thoroughly -- much more than you think it needs.

    2. Dip one cotton ball in the salt water.

    3. Wait for 30 - 60 seconds.

    4. Squeeze out excess water out until it is damp, but not dripping.

    5. Place the damp cotton ball over your large, oh-my-goodness-I-cannot-go-to-... zit. If you have several of these grouped together, try to place the cotton ball over them all.

    6. Glance at your watch/clock. Wait exactly three minutes.

    7. Remove the cotton ball after the time is up. The zit seems to be nearly gone, but it is only the top that has dissolved. Your acne is still there.

    8. Take the other two cotton balls and place them on either side of the despised pimple.

    9. Slowly, move them closer together until the tiny bump is flattened. Congrats! You've just conquered that giant of a pimple -- forever!

    10. Apply honey on the infected area %26amp; go to sleep!!

    Tips

*Don't forget the last 3 steps -- they are crucial.

*Be sure to follow these steps closely. Dipping a cottonball in fresh water as opposed to salt will not work, for instants.

    * You might want to bring a book -- either waterproof or one that you do not care about being splattered in water. Those three minutes can get boring.

    * This is your best bet for monster zits that simply sneak up on you. For long-term healthy skin, cleansing and toning is also important.

    Warnings

    * Please, PLEASE, do not assume this is permission to ';pop'; pimples. Doing so can cause major scarring. Please don't pop them.

    * If you stop after the top is dissolved, I must warn you: it WILL come back! Maybe not in the next five minutes, but during the course of an hour, it will come back!

You can even try applying original Head %26amp; Shoulder Shampoo to clear acne!!! I WORKS like a charm!! Read all about it here including people's comment about it!

    http://www.myhomeremedies.com/remedy.cgi鈥?/a>

If you feel new pimples erupting, ice it! Hold an ice cube over the area for about 5-10 minutes. It REALLY works!!!

    For acne scars,

    1. Lemon juice is natural bleach and helps in lightening the scars and blemishes of the skin.

    2. Rosehip seed oil is also another home remedy which reduces acne scars. It is mostly used in the cosmetic products and used for acne scarring, facial scarring, surgical scars, sun damage, premature aging, burn marks etc. This oil should be massaged twice on the acne scars daily.

    3. Application of Aloe Vera gel/juice to the fresh wounds prevents the formation of permanent scars.

    4. One of the home remedy is that ice cubes can be rubbed on the acne scars for ten to fifteen minutes.

    5. Vitamin E is considered best for the healthy glowing skin. Application of vitamin E oil or capsule to the scar will completely vanish the scar in few weeks.

    6. The most effective remedy for the scars is application of honey several times a day. It will give a natural glow to the skin and will remove all scars.

What kind of education do I need to become a dermatologist?

I'm a high school student aspiring to become a dermatologist. What kind of education do I need? What kind of education do I need to become a dermatologist?
You'll first need to become an MD or DO and then complete your residency in Dermatology. According to a report by the Washington-based Association of American Medical Colleges and the National Resident Matching Program, only 61 percent of seniors at American medical schools whose first choice was dermatology received a residency in that field last year. Compare that figure with 98 percent for those seeking internal medicine and 99 percent for family medicine. What kind of education do I need to become a dermatologist?
Since dermatology is a branch of medicine, you'd need undergrad plus med school, plus 1 yr internship, plus 3 yr dermatology residency. If you want to do surgical dermatology, you can add a year or two for a surgical fellowship.

So you're looking at the same amount of education that it would take to become a pediatrician or internist.

What would be a better choice an Anesthetist or a Dermatologist?

I really wanted to be an Anesthetist, but from what iv been hearing theres much more work too it, but i aslo like how much they get paid. But a dermatologist seems easier and some say they get payed more. I would really like a job with in the medical field cuase i want to help people but i also want to have a good salary to suport me and my family, but I also would like to have some time for my family and not be in the hospital all my life. What would be a better choice an Anesthetist or a Dermatologist?
Dermatologists are medical doctors, and it's currently one of THE toughest specialties to get into. That means you need to do very well in college to get into a top med school, and then you need to be at the top of your class at medical school, get really high board scores, do research, etc. in order to go into dermatology.

If by ';Anesthetist'; you mean Anesthesiologist, they are medical doctors too, and that specialty is up there with Derm in terms of how hard it is to become one (again, top grades, scores, published research, etc). If by Anesthetist you meant ';Nurse Anesthetist';, then it's easier in that it does not require the level of training and expertise as becoming a physician in the same field....but in the hierarchy of nursing, it's a pretty challenging job nonetheless.

I'm not a dermatologist or anesthesiologist, so I can't speak to ';how easy'; it is once you get there, but that's a mute point since it is incredibly, incredibly hard to get there in the first place. If you're looking to coast, you should be looking elsewhere.

Anything that's easy to do or easy to get into isn't going to pay well compared to something that's harder and tougher.

You've put the cart before the horse....first you need to figure out if you really want to become a physician, and then if you have what it takes to get into med school. Once you're in med school you can worry about which specialty to go into....even people who ';have decided'; before med school change their mind because you don't get actual exposure until you're a med student. What would be a better choice an Anesthetist or a Dermatologist?
Ur too young to understand wat it is like to do either of those jobs! Are u under 20 years of age? I THINK U ARE OR ELSE U WOULDN'T BE ASKING THIS HERE! Very few premed students make it! IF u do make it u will be studying 70hrs a week and having no life except for bio, chem and calculous! U will have a grueling 90 hr week in med school and 100 hr week during residency! =) Find something u enjoy doing and don't set ur sights on something too early because u might hate it!

Go shadow a doctor! Oh Dermatology has very competetive residencies! U will need top USMLE scores and an MD from a top medical school! That will require 80 hrs studying a week lol.
Who told you that anesthesiologists has a lot of work to do? They're one of the most laid back specialists. If you want a cushy job, that's the specialty for you.

But first thing first. Learn how to spell, be more diligent, and get into med school.

What kind of schooling do you need to be a dermatologist?

-What kind of schools are good?

-Are there special fields you need to study?

What else should i know about this? What kind of schooling do you need to be a dermatologist?
To become a dermatologist, a medical school graduate must complete four years of training in a dermatology residency program, including one year of general clinical training and three years of dermatology education. To achieve your medical degree, you must possess abilities and skills, which are observational, communicational, motor, intellectual/conceptual, and behavioral/social. Students are judged on their scholastic accomplishments, and their physical and emotional capacities to meet all full requirements. The traditional three-year residency program, provides residents with a vigorous, challenging, and multi- faceted experience. You first must take Component I, which provides students with basic knowledge of biochemical sciences and clinical skills. To begin, the students work with simulated patients, learning to conduct medical interviews and physical examinations. The instruction on this part of the course is broad, and students receive help from faculty, and feedback from patients. First year students also can participate in hands-on lab and small-group learning activities. Next, Component II is taken, which is a series of disease and organ-system sequences, in preparation for the third and fourth years. This is divided into individual sequences that are arranged in an organ system approach. Teachers from several different departments teach these sequences in a multidisciplinary way. This introduces the essentials of diagnosis and clinical management. In addition to working with simulated patients, second year, students perform patient histories and physical exams in a hospital atmosphere. After completing the second year courses, the students are required to pass the USMLE Step 1 exam to advance into the clinical years. Third year students are required to complete a core of required clerkships. The students should now have a good understanding of medicine, needing only to refine their skills the next year. The students now must pass the USMLE Step 2 exam, as a graduation requirement. Fourth year gives the students a lot of flexibility in designing their schedule, and are encouraged to explore deeper into areas of interest, in which there has been little exposure

How much are most dermatologist's visits, and how much are most acne curing procedures?

I have moderate acne that is better sometimes and really bad other times. I just want some expert advice, i use the best skin care available to me and it just doesn't do the job for long, i dont have insurance but still want to see a derm, what do you think. btw i live in the Detroit area of Michigan. How much are most dermatologist's visits, and how much are most acne curing procedures?
I started having really bad acne problems beginning when I was in high school. I had acne on my shoulders that was embarrasing. I tried Proactiv, Zyporex, and even the Asso Gold Cleaning Bar with limited results. I ended up calling a local dermatologist in Wisconsin. After 5 months nearly all of my acne cleared up. I suggest you try calling a local Michigan dermatologist that can help. http://www.homeacnecare.com/Michigan-Der鈥?/a>How much are most dermatologist's visits, and how much are most acne curing procedures?
Get a good recommendation for a good doctor, and go see him/her. I went to see one for my acne, and it was amazing what he did! It was cleared up in a matter of weeks!

However, if you don't get a good doctor, you won't get good results. I went to a doctor at the university health clinic when I was in college, and he had me on anti-biotics for three months. It didn't do a thing for me. Maybe because I wasn't eating right and keeping my stress down, but maybe because he wasn't doing the right things.

In my case, after he cleared up that one bad case, I haven't really had many breakouts except normal period stuff.

Eating right, keeping your stress down, getting enough sleep and exercise, and doing some sort of home facial once a week will keep your ';new face'; in good shape. You can get started on those things now, as a matter of fact.

I have one sun spot on my cheek, and want to get rid of it without going to the doctor-is this possible? Is there any way to get rid of a facial sun spot without going to the dermatologist?
u should mix fresh unboiled milk and lemon juice and apply at ur skin, u'll get best results. its havent any sde effects. Is there any way to get rid of a facial sun spot without going to the dermatologist?
Yeah, it is possible to get rid of that sun spot with zenmed's scars and hyperpigmentation treatment kit. From my experience I would say that it is a very good and powerful formula for getting rid of scar marks, dark spots and sun spots in a short span of time. Using it just for a week would definitely leave your face clear and without any spots.
stay out of the sun...and try bio-oil i hear its amazing for everything...stretch marks, scars, age spots, sunspots...it can even be used as a age cream...so basically its like a all on one cream but its actually a oil...LOL anyways good luck.
Maybe you should try these home-remedies:

Either way, I suggest you ask your doctor next time you are there for another reason.
Try cocoa butter or aloe vera!

This probably isn't the answer you are looking for but I often have patients skin conditions dramatically improve when I treat them with normal Diversified chiropractic.

Get a good one of an HMO you may be very surprised how well it works. I assume since you've had it for years you are open to new ideas.

It works through releasing pressure from the nerves which exit the spinal column and regulate the skin functions.

And the worst thing that can happen is you'll have better posture and a much looser neck and back.

Is seeing a dermatologist for acne any different than getting a prescription for acne by a doctor?

I have never had BAD acne, but ive alway had small bumps on my forehead and chin, kind of like a cross between white and black heads. My complection has never been smooth, and Ive tried alot of different products. Im now taking 500mg ammoxicillin (if thats how its spelled) but now its not working. My face has been breaking out alot more recently and ive had enough of it!! its now moving to my cheekbones and temples. Ive been wanting to see a dermatologist. Is that a good idea?Is seeing a dermatologist for acne any different than getting a prescription for acne by a doctor?
I would say seeing a dermatologist may be a good path to go down. Although, be cautious because sometimes they can over medicate like most conventional doctors usually do. I've recently heard of a treatment called Levulan Photodynamic Therapy. It is an acne treatment that uses Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid), a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated with a blue light. It is said to be a permanent solution for those with moderate to severe cystic acne. Perhaps bring this up during your next doctor's visit. Good Luck!! :)Is seeing a dermatologist for acne any different than getting a prescription for acne by a doctor?
A dermatologist IS a doctor. Yes, it's a good idea. Amoxicillin is not a very effective antibiotic for acne. A dermatologist will be more familiar than a primary care practitioner with various topical and oral acne medications.

what can a dermatologist do for my undereye circles? What can a dermatologist do for my undereye circles?
He may prescribe you a medication that provides temporary moisture and nourishment to the skin but the only way I know to permanently be rid of these is to have a plastic surgeon do a lift of the skin under your eyes. It is not real painful but it is a little costly. What can a dermatologist do for my undereye circles?
A lot of times dark circles are a sign of allergies. Or it can be from wearing eye glasses. Or they can be hereditary. I don't believe that a dermotologist can help. Make-up made to cover up those areas do pretty good.

ya u should go to a doctor! what if it gets worse and u start to get them all over? i mean best to get it taken care of NOW instead of waitn for it to get worse. I dont think pple can really help you with out seeing what it is...and even then they might just be filling you with crap! go see the derm!If you know alot about skin or you are dermatologist please help?
That is pus and you shouldn't squeeze or you will infect it. Just cleanse it gently with an alcohol free gel cleanswer and then apply some witch hazel followed by either salycic acid or benzoyl peroxide treatment. HTH : )
first thing STOP squeezing them...its a result of oily skin...you shud take regular cold showers..and use a anti bacterial or an anti acne soap to scrub your Back regularly...wear cotton inners only...the more you keep your self clean..your skin wud get oxygen and soon you wud get rid of thm.

Should i go to a doctor or a dermatologist for foot rash?

I think it might be athletes foot. I already have a dermo appt. tomorrow for a different rash. Could they help me?Should i go to a doctor or a dermatologist for foot rash?
If your going to a dermatologist tomorrow, you should ask him. Derma does mean skin. A doctor is generally more knowledgeable about medicines, though. Maybe a podiatrist? Also, try washing your feet. JK, try washing them with vinegar. Get new shoes, wash your socks. Athletes foot is just a fungus. So try to get it physically off. Moisturize them and exfoliate them, maybe.

Can a dermatologist fix your face so you dont have to wear foundation or concealer?

haha noCan a dermatologist fix your face so you dont have to wear foundation or concealer?
If your problem is acne and other treatable skin conditions, then yes. But if you just want your skin to look perfect, they can't do that. Dermatologists can improve the health of your skin, and if that's what you want to not have to wear foundation, then yes.
I had this problem but I don't anymore. Toner is a really important part of your skin regime. Right after you wash and dry your face you are supposed to use a toner (clear) on it and let it air dry (Use a Cotton ball) Clearasil has a 4 step kit with with the toner and the moisturizer that really helps. I no longer have to put foundation or concealer on. I do put tinted moisturizer on my skin with looks powder for a nice evening look.

  • How much does it cost to see a dermatologist?

For acne. My mom says she'll take me. Price doesn't really matter, we certainly aren't poor. But I was wondering how much does it cost to go in and have them look at your face and maybe prescribe you something. Also, do you have to get a regular doctor's recommendation to see a dermatologist since they are considered a specialty doctor? We have insurance. Also, any other info about going to the dermatologist that is important, please. Thanks. How much does it cost to see a dermatologist?
Usually Insurance covers some of the cost for visiting and some of the price for the meds. It's like going to a regular doctor. And you do not have to get a regular doctor's recombination. They basically look at your skin, ask some questions, and perscribeHow much does it cost to see a dermatologist?
All of this depends on your insurance and the doctor of your choice. Some dermatologists ask for a recommendation others don't, depending on your insurance company they may have a website with a list of dermatologists in your area. The price depends on your insurance, and if your insurance will cover the doctor of your choice. At most visits all you have to pay is a co-payment. most of the time it is between 20-50 dollars.

I have horrible skin and have been to dermatologists and specialists. Your dermatologist may or may not give you an allergy test to see if your acne is actually an allergy (mine turned out to be). Its not that bad though, they will more then likely prescribed you a medicine and schedule a follow up to see how it works for you.

    Good luck with your visit.

Ampicillin 500mg twice daily... helped right away.
Um well it's more for blackheads that acne but I got retin-a-micro... Just as indicated on the info, it works nicely at first, skin gets worse for about a month, then it clears up nicely afterwards. But it does give excessive dryness and sensivity. So if you go that way, don't forget you need a heavy moisturizer and very good sunscreen. I work in a drugstore and the med that I saw that was most effective for really bad cystic acne was Accutane. Takes about two months to do its job.

A dermatologist is a medical doctor (MD) who specializes in skin diseases (dermatology). That means 4 years of college majoring in pre-med science, then 4 years of medical school, then 2 years working in a hospital as an intern, then 2-4 years as a resident in the dermatology part of a hospital learning about treating burns and skin diseases.

How long did it take 4 it to work?Question 4 people who have gone to a dermatologist to treat acne?
I went to two different dermatologists after trying pretty much every over-the-counter product for my skin.

The first had me use Aveeno foaming cleanser. He prescribed Duac and Differin. When that failed to produce any results, he prescribed oral antibiotics. Those failed, and he wanted to put me on Accutane. I had some insurance issues at that time, and my acne wasn't bothering me as much...so I stopped seeing him, without taking the Accutane.

A few years later, my acne began flaring up again. I went to a different dermatologist. He prescribed Benzacline for me to use twice a day and Retin-A Micro once a day. He also prescribed a benzoyl peroxide wash for my back. When those didn't work, he prescribed Tetracycline, a different oral antibiotic than I had taken before. When that didn't work after a few months, he talked to me about Accutane...and I finally went through with it.

I was only on it for five months (though I should have been on it longer), but it did wonders for my skin. It began clearing it up within a month. It also made my cholesterol skyrocket, so I had to follow a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet for several months...

He took me off of it probably sooner than I should have been, and now my acne has resurfaced, although nowhere near as bad as it was. I am now using a sulfur/sulfa wash twice a day and there are some weird vitamins I'm trying to get up the nerve to take...Question 4 people who have gone to a dermatologist to treat acne?
tretinoin cream and minocycline. i had pretty bad acne before, and now i swear to god...my skin is completely 100% clear. in fact, makeup artists will compliment me on my skin! i recommend these medicines comletely. also, there are NO side affects (like you wont want to kill yourself because some acne meds are downers...these are not)
I was prescribed Azelex. It's a cream you use twice a day. I noticed results within 2 days, it's great.
Benzaclin has always worked for me, and very quickly. I've also used Differin, which took awhile to work.
It matters what you skin type is and how bad your acne is... It took about 2 years for my sister with REALLY BAD acne, and about 6 months for me.. it matters
azelex cream. works pretty good, but itches while it dries. works in a few days or so. you have to use it all the time though.

tetracycline was what they gave a friend of mine. it worked. she took it long term. it worked pretty quickly.

differin gel did not work for me. it worked for my other friend.

proactive did not work for me and gave me shortness of breath. i guess i was allergic to it.

none of the over the counter stuff worked.

    that's about all i tried.

colgate advance fresh gel toothpaste works well. it takes the red out and makes the bump go down a lot. but it's green so you have to use it at night. don't rub it in, just dab it on.
Everyone is different. Depending on the severity of your acne they might prescribe a number of things, from oral drugs, to topicals to a combination of both. Everyone is different so something that works for me might not work for you. It usually takes about 4-6 weeks before you can tell if something is helping you or not.
A dermatologist prescribed me various medications for a few years.

I was prescribed Retin-A (it made my skin dry) and didn't work to well.

    - I was also prescribed Tretinoin cream which is another version of Retin-A and it worked the best for me. I no longer have acne except for occasional breakouts.

    - I only started seeing results after a little over a week. In a few months my face really cleared up. My acne has decreased significantly that I no longer use the product. I havent used it in 3 years and my face is still clear.
There is a special skin treatment they use, but it will make your skin very red and irritated for a few days afterward. Some dermatologists like Pro-Activ. It worked for me, but it doesn't work for some people. You have to experiment with different products to find the one that works for you.
I've never been to one, but I've tried proactiv and ALL OTC medicines...and nothing works...
well my friend wen when they were in HS.

the dermie got some instrument for the skin and kinda punctured their acne. the friend sceamed. then he kinda slapped her and said, ';not to be a sissy';.

she never went to that dermatologist again ever.

go w/medicated skin cream. It's safer.

  • Can a Dermatologist do anything about whelps and scars on your neck? Like Possibly Remove them with a laser?

I have some unsightly dark scarring/whelps on my neck I want removed ASAP and I wondered if a Dermatologist could remove them with a laser or something somehow? And how much would something like that cost? Can a Dermatologist do anything about whelps and scars on your neck? Like Possibly Remove them with a laser?
Whelps are baby animals, like dogs. You have welts. Ask the doctor.

Can my doctor prescribe the same medication and cream for acne scars that a dermatologist can?

I don't want to have to go all the way to a dermatologist that I don't know when my doctor can basically provide the same medicine. Can my doctor prescribe the same medication and cream for acne scars that a dermatologist can?
Yes, a doctor can prescibe the same as a dermatologist. My son had acne real bad and I ask him if he could prescribe him something for it. So he said sure. And now my son has very clear skin now.Can my doctor prescribe the same medication and cream for acne scars that a dermatologist can?
you should ask your doctor, he may specialize in skin conditions or something like that and be able to give you the medicine. He may want to refer you to a dermatologist still.
depends how up-to-date your doctor is those type of meds. They may give you something and if that doesn't work for you then they may request you fo to a specialist.
Yes. Anyone who has earned a MD can prescribe anything they think is appropriate.
    wats good baebae.
Yes but make sure your dr. knows what you need.

Question 4 people who have gone to a dermatologist to treat acne?

    What did they prescribe you?

    Did it work?

    How did it work?

Do you recommend going to a dermatologist?

I'll be going to a dermatologist next week so I'm just curious about other ppls experience :)Question 4 people who have gone to a dermatologist to treat acne?
I love dermatologists...they gave me Benzaclin and it is great. It has antibiotic properties with sulfer to dry up the acne. They also performed acne surgery. After a few months of that I did not really have to go anymore. Good luck! Check into Benzaclin.Question 4 people who have gone to a dermatologist to treat acne?
I had moderate acne, especially around my jawline, went to several dermatologists and they all took about five- ten min. and recomended antibiotics and other medications, I don't like taking meds. so i asked for topicals at first, differin was the most horrible painful thing, and took about two and a half weeks to heal from it, so I decided to do some research and found a doctor who did acne surgery, very rare practice dermatologists used to do, But as my derma says they have become lazy, and prescribing is so much easier for them and they don't want to spend the time with you. well my face looks 100% better since I've started with my derma, I see her every other month she goes over my face very carefully with her hands and any bumps or blackheads that may someday turn into pimples she gently, pokes with a needle and releases/ drains the pus or whatever comes out, so they have no chance to even become zits, there is tiny bit of blood but my face is perfect by two days later, she spend an average of 30-40 min. working on me and I wouldn't go to any one else, look into it, always go natural, and diet always helps, and plenty of water, good luck:) watch out for the ones who want to sell you there products
I don't suggest Differin if you have sensitive skin,

I've been told to watch my diet (avoid sugars, sugar inflames acne)

Now, I'm using ';Erythromycin-Benzoyl Peroxide Topical Gel';, although its complicated to use, is working.

DO NOT use Acutane, at least do your research on it before giving it a try. It literally blocks your pores and may cause so many problems, I've known several people who experienced severe side effects (including a stroke, and cancer!)
I know something he does not. Sleep on terry cloth. It's clean your skin while your sleep. Tell him to check out www.plushpillowcases.com They clean your face while you sleep. It well help with your ance. Sweet dreams
my dermatologist gave me antibiotics and recommendations to stay away from sun! it took time but worked!
I went to an esthetitician (i can't spell it) in a dermo. office and she recommended skinceuticals acne line before i try drugs, which i am reluctant to take. it's a great product and has helped a lot. i also started to change my pillowcase every two days after sleeping on each side for one night. Helped out hugely for cheeks and neck. amazing really. another natural aid is zinc supplements. there's a specific form of it, I can't remember. google it. sugar can be a culprit for some people, as can dairy. try some of this stuff, it can't hurt to eat less sugar...

What is the best way to clear up acne w/out going to the dermatologist or using Proactiv?

I don't have severe acne but I have enough to look really bad. I would prefer to only go to the doctor as a last resort, and proactive did nothing for me. I would like it gone quickly (wouldn't everyone? haha) but mostly I just want it gone. Any suggestions? What is the best way to clear up acne w/out going to the dermatologist or using Proactiv?
Proactive destroyed my daughters face, but there is an amazing product you can use the Medicated Acne Treatment by Bee-Luscious Cosmetics, it delivers results my two daughters were scarring and having so much trouble, finally once I found and tried these products their skin is like brand new no scars just a clear beautiful complexion.

    EXFOLIATE

    CLEANSE

    TONE

    MOISTURIZE

the four golden rules of skin care

just go home, and do it intensly... consider it a facial jam session.

sometimes skipping one or more of these steps works even better- it all depends on the skin you have.

I have dry skin, so I skip toning.
well you shud try clean and clear face washes, and use some kind of pimple treatment and lotion...they also sell those 3 step acne solution things in cvs, kinda likeproactiv but i dont think as expensive
Take a look at this page, it might help your situation. It has information on acne, how to treat it naturally, and advertisers with alternative and mainstream acne products:

    http://www.axalda.info/acne.html
Try treating it with a product that has Salicylic Acid if benzoyl peroxide doesn't work. I like Prescriptives Acne Defense Serum, but I'm sure there's others out there that work, too.
The most important thing is a three part system, similiar to Proactive. University Medical has a great kit, similiar to Proactive. Each day, you should start by cleansing. Since you have acne, stick with a cleanser with saliycic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Cream formulas won't dry out your skin as much as gels or foams. Following, you should tone your skin. Base your astringent off how severe your acne is -- anyone at a local drug store or department store should be able to help (btw, I work at one). Lastly, you should moisturize. I realize that it seems silly to add more moisture -- but if you don't, your skin will overcompensate oil, and you'll break out more. Make sure that your moisturizer is OIL FREE. Wear sunscreen daily. Drink a lot of water. Take off your make-up nightly (this is imperative). Exfoliate once a week. Spot treat individual acne blemishes. People react differently to different acne medications, some like salicylic acid, others benzoyal peroxide, some sulfer... It just depends. Ole Hendrickson makes a great one that combines salicyic and benzoyal, but its a little pricey (sephora.com)... Walgreens benzoyal peroxide works pretty well, too.

Its a lot of work, I know, but I find it better to spend time and feel better about myself -- I didn't get acne until I was an adult!!!

You should clear up in about a week or two... I hope for the best!
i use to have bad acne but all id o is wash my face with soap and water ever morning and every night before i go to bed and it clears up pretty good
Wash your face with the water and soaps 2-4 times a day.
I use a combination of birth control, pro-activ, and different spot treatments. It's important to drink lots of water to flush toxins out of your body as well. Drinking soda increases the sugar in your body. It's also very important to wash your face every day. If I wear makeup and then go to bed without washing it off, I notice blemishes immediately. Your pores need to be able to breathe, and wearing makeup as rarely as possible is important. If you aren't going out, or you're only seeing people who you don't care that they see you without makeup, leave it off.

I also find it helpful to be careful what you pop. Don't pop zits unless you have to, do NOT pop under-the-skin zits (that painful kind that is red but deep under all seven layers of skin). If I pop anything, it's blackheads because they are clogs and it's good to open them before they become zits. Of course my skin isn't perfect but that's what I find works. If you don't use pro-activ, try some gentile cleansers and wash your face at least twice a day: once in the morning and once before bed.
My suggestion would be Estro-step the birthcontrol pill. I had really really bad acne before I went on the pill and it just cleared it right up. and it was fast to.
its hard to say just because everyones skin is different. proactive didnt work for me either, but neutrogena works really good for me.
All right, drink lots of water and have your fair share of vegetables. Also, steer clear of oily foods and greasy foods and dont have too much sugar. Wash your face everyday atleast twice, but only use soap once. If this still doesn't work, go to www.wikihow.com and search. It's a great website!
check what suits your skin type.

have a list of the oinment, medicine you use. journal their effect on you.

use what you notice works well.

all antibiotics are good for 3 months. switch for another in the 4th month and you can reuse the former after 3months of using the later.

3 months, time when you yourself get immune with the antibiotic

BENzoyl peroxide of the PROACTIVE... use ample amount :)
Witch Hazel! Less than $2 in the pharmacy at wal-mart. It totally cleared up my acne!!! Hope I helped!

How can I find the cause of my contact dermatitis without going to the dermatologist?

I get itchy, bumpy rashes that come and go every once in a while. It always appears in random places on my body. I changed all of my sheets and put some freshly-washed clothes on. Besides my cat, there isn't anything that could possibly trigger an allergic reaction. (Though I was never allergic to cats!) We don't even have furniture in the living room yet. My mom dusts, cleans, and vaccums the house every morning and night. We are generally cautious about dust mites and pet dander because we have a sick baby. Is there anything I'm missing that could trigger this reaction?

Also, I just recently had a blood transfusion. If what I have is not contact dermatitis then could it be a reaction to the white/red blood cells that were donated to me?How can I find the cause of my contact dermatitis without going to the dermatologist?
    Most transfusion reactions are immediate.

There is one delayed reaction, called graft vs. host disease, that includes a rash. But it also includes fever and liver issues, and would likely make you feel sick and run-down. If that's the case, you should call your doctor.

Otherwise, contact dermatitis is a good guess.

Have you changed laundry detergents, or fabric softener, or dryer sheets, or soap or shampoo? Even a new deodorant or perfume could be causing a reaction.

The next time you get the rash, try to stop and backtrack, thinking about everything that came into contact with your skin -- and with your clothes.

The best way to get rid of severely oily skin (like I have) is to get old.

When you get old and your skin is itchy from dryness in a way you never dreamed could exist you'll long for the days when you had extra oil to go around.

Retin A works well. She may bump you up to stronger stuff depending on how you react because this stuff can cause serious over dryness if not used properly or on the right skin type.

As an aside I find that the best moisturizer for my dry hands (the backs) is the oil from my forehead. P.S. I didn't used to have dry skin anywhere.

i'm taking YAZ for accutane next month.

he said to take it at the very last day of my period, but the instructions that came with the pills said to take it the very first day of your period.

why did he tell me that?

what should i do?My dermatologist told me to start taking YAZ once i END my period, but the instructions say at the beginning?
Follow the instructions. He's a dermatologist, not a gyno. They get confused sometimes...

You can either do a ';same-day start'; where you start taking the pill on the first day of your period - take the one marked with the right day (you'll have some spares when you get to the end of the pack, just start a new pack.) This means that you'll be protected immediately.

Or you can do a ';Sunday start'; which is when you start on the Sunday after the start of your period - this sometimes means that your period is over by the time you start the first pills. You'll be protected once you've had an active pill each day for at least seven days in a row.

Just depends. Sometimes they get it right on the first visit. I went to a dematologist and he identified my skin issue on the first visit and prescribed medicine that cleared it up.How long does it take for a dermatologist to find what is right for your acne?
It depends. It all comes back to what works for your skin the best. If It's the first thing she gives you, then yay. But it could take over 3 years. My friend has been going since 4th grade and now shes in 8th and just find something htat works for her. For instance, I got some it works for about a week and then the acne comes back. But it all depends. :D good luck!
Depends on if he/she actually knows what they are doing.

I went to a jack hole doctor and it took me lots of time and pain and accutane and monthly blood tests and birth control and all this other $hIt and I still get little zits. I wanna shoot myself..........................
Trial and error. The first Rx may be right for you, maybe not. You just sit there and he looks at the places where you have acne.
usually a dermatologist finds the cure for your acne when he realizes he has sucked you dry of your money
That would depend on how your skin responds to treatment
    a long time prboalhy

How much does a visit to the dermatologist usually cost?

I've never been to a dermatologist but my brother had a mole that was cancerous a few years back and I was told that I should get myself checked as well. I checked with my insurance and they will not cover this visit at all. I was just wondering what a routine checkup would cost. I'm sure there are all different prices, but I am looking for a ballpark figure, as I have no clue.

ThanksHow much does a visit to the dermatologist usually cost?
I know they are very expensive. My son's first visit was $485.00 for a check up and a biopsie. Had to go back and have a small place on this back (skin cancer) burned with that hot stuff they spray on.

This time he told them he did not have any insurance to cover that so

they gave him a discount and still charged over $200.00.

How do you get to a dermatologist?

How much does an appointment cost and how do you go see one? Do you look them up in the yellowpages or something? How do you get to a dermatologist?
no, no, no. don't do that, you will end up paying out the butt to see them. instead, go to your primary care physician and ask for a ';referral'; also ask if they can recommend a dermatologist that they know is good. you have to contact your insurance to and let them know you have a referral. then when the appointment comes, you will only pay a small co-pay for the visit. insurance covers some of the med cost as well, or sometimes my dermatologist will give me like $80 off coupons. How do you get to a dermatologist?
If you have health insurance sometimes it requires for you to see your primary doctor and get a referral to see a specialist. In the other hand, they are some kind of insurance that you can just call any kind of doctor and make an appointment. This is also the case if you do not have any insurance, you will cover the expenses so you can make an appointment any time.
Well, first the appointment cost depends on if your insurance pays for some of it and what you go in for.

I guess you can look them up on yellow pages, I got mine from a family member's recommendation.

Whatever the cost, ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT,

my skin used to be terrible, now its completely clear and soft.

    good luck with everything!!

  • What to expect when seeing a dermatologist ?

I've got an appointment to see a dermatologist for my acne im 15 so i don't really know what to expect ?What to expect when seeing a dermatologist ?
He'll ask you about your general health, allergies to medications, how long you've had the problem, what have u already tried in order to treat it, and then he'll examine your skin. Some skin docs examine just the area that has the problem; others might do a total skin exam, looking for any other skin problems, such as a suspicious mole. You certainly have the option to refuse that,if it's offered. Then, based upon what he has found, he'll give you prescriptions for your acne that he feels are best for your skin type and your type of acne.

How much would it cost to go to a dermatologist?

Do you have insurance? Usually they cover the dermatologist. You might have to schedule it as a skin check though, saying you want him to look for skin cancers on you. Because I am freckled I can always go for that. Without insurance though, you'd have to call around and ask them how much they are going to charge upfront. And you can get that cleared up so I hope you can go.

ya u should go to a doctor! what if it gets worse and u start to get them all over? i mean best to get it taken care of NOW instead of waitn for it to get worse.

Make-up made to cover up those areas do pretty good.
if ur skin is dirty, she can cleanit.or it mayb something else. ask them 2 look and see wat they can do

What should i major in if i want to become a dermatologist?

Is Medicine one, or is there something better? What should i major in if i want to become a dermatologist?
At the undergrad level, I'd do biology with a minor in ethics or sociology (to show you're well rounded). In graduate school you'll major in medicine. Good luck! :-)What should i major in if i want to become a dermatologist?
The first response is absolutely correct. Theoretically you can have major in anything you wish at the undergraduate level, but getting into medical school is very competitive. You will better your chances of admission if you have a degree in one of the basic sciences (Chemistry, biology etc) because admissions counselors will be looking for evidence that you have a good foundation in these.
For undergraduate, you could do almost anything. Popular choices for pre-med students are biology and chemistry, but I've read that many med schools like it when students major in ethics or liberal art fields.

For graduate school, you'll need to go to med school because dermatologists are doctors.
Actually you don't have a better chance with a bio or chem major. A large number of math and engineers and physics majors get into medical school.

You don't major in medicine. You need to get a Bachelors degree first then apply to medical school, after which you can specialize in dermatology
