Can anyone recommend a dermatologist in NYC that has experience with African American skin?

Its NYC they seen and done everyone.. where ever you go you will have someone who has done an african american before.. it doesnt mean quality.. for quality you need to pay extra and go to a nice place that you know has a good reputation

If i saw a dermatologist could they help me get rid of the dark marks left on my face from pimples?

Probably, I advise this Aloe Vera lotion, its great for scars and pimple marks. also bio oil, works brilliantly for this kind of problem, costs a little more tho, Aloe Vera stuff costs between 1-4 pounds. I used it for same problem worked great. If i saw a dermatologist could they help me get rid of the dark marks left on my face from pimples?
I have the same problem and I started to do my own research to see what would work for me and I finally found something that works. Queen Helene masks, Julip mint.. that works great. At first I was not sure but I been using it for a few month's now and my skin is looking good. Try it, you never know.. Good luck!!If i saw a dermatologist could they help me get rid of the dark marks left on my face from pimples?
tea tree oil and extra virgin coconut oil will hill prevent and smooth scarring.

YES! - they help with everything on the face's skin!

I want to get on Accutane but I heard my dermatologist will only give it to me if I make a good argument?

I realize all the consequences and side-effects.

I also have been on Retin-A for a long time with very little results. I have extremely oily skin (very shiny by 9 am). This is a new dermotolgist and I have an appointment tomorrow. I'm scared of needles also but willing to deal with it. I'm not sure how to convince my doctor to allow me to try it.I want to get on Accutane but I heard my dermatologist will only give it to me if I make a good argument?
Generally you will have to have exhausted all other products and methods and after zero success then you would be considering a suitable candidate for Accutane. Some won't prescribe it unless you Have cystic acne that penetrates deeper in the skin and is known to cause scarring. Other doctors will hesitate to prescribe it to females in general due mainly to the birth defects that it causes.

If you really want to give Accutane a try, and meet with some resistance from your dermatologist then seek out a different physician. It's really your choice as to whether or not you want to take Accutane despite any issues involved.I want to get on Accutane but I heard my dermatologist will only give it to me if I make a good argument?
What are you in a debate? If he has valid reasons for NOT wanting to give it to you then he needs to speak up. If not then say your argument is ';if you don't give it to me I'll see another doctor get a second opinion';. Why would you have to explain anything to him...

How much does it cost to go to a dermatologist? I live in the State of California?

How much does it usually cost to visit the dermatologist? Does it cost about the same as going to a family doctor? Would my family doctor have to transfer my medical files to the dermatologist or can I just pick and choose any dermatologist and pay as I go. What's the average cost just for a Visit to get some advice and treatment if need be (I'm not asking about the cost of treatment, but the cost of the visit) Thanks..How much does it cost to go to a dermatologist? I live in the State of California?
It depends on the doctor. Some offices charge a WHOLE lot more to people who don't have insurance verses people who have coverage. Go to a dermatologist who does cosmetic procedures instead of medical. My suggestion is to call in advance of what the price will be for a consult. My guess is 100 or so. Good Luck with your skin problems. How much does it cost to go to a dermatologist? I live in the State of California?
The norm is $50 - $130
If you pay cash, $60 -120 for the first visit, in Huntington Beach, CA anyway.

Where would I go to see a Dermatologist? Inside the Hospital and ask for a Dermatologist?

Where would I go to see a Dermatologist? Inside the Hospital and ask for a Dermatologist? Sorry this will be my first time visiting a Dermatologist to consult my mild Acne problem.Where would I go to see a Dermatologist? Inside the Hospital and ask for a Dermatologist?
Don't go to the hospital. It is possible that a dermatologist has an office in a hospital but most have an office outside of one kind of like a normal family doctor. I would ask your normal family doctor for a referral or if you are feeling brave look up ';dermatologist'; in the yellow pages and call one.

What majors/education do I need to become an dermatologist?

Does anyone know what kind of education you need to become an dermatologist? What majors/education do I need to become an dermatologist?
You can major in anything undergrad. Then take the MCATs and get into med school. Then apply to a derm residency. Very competitive residency. There is definitely a need in derm where I live. It takes 3 plus months to get an appt.

  • Going to a dermatologist for the first time ever later today, should i prepare anything?

I've already taken off my makeup, but I'm assuming a dermatologist is like a doctor's, you have to tell them as much as possible.

What should I already know about my acne before going?

    I'm 13 by the way

Thanks!Going to a dermatologist for the first time ever later today, should i prepare anything?
Hi, I work at a derm office. Going without your makeup is a great idea. The doctor will ask you questions about your acne, like how long you have had it, if it gets better or flares, if you have tried products on it to help it, that type of thing. The doctor can usually tell exactly what type of acne you have just be examining it. He will probably give you a cream to apply, maybe recommend certain product for washing and moisturizing, and sometimes they will try you on an antibiotic as that helps the skin get rid of bacteria. Good luck! It will be fine!Going to a dermatologist for the first time ever later today, should i prepare anything?
i saw a dermatologist when i was 13 and you don't really have to do anything they just look at you and will probably prescribe something like Differin or an antibiotic like Doxycycline and then have you come back in a couple months to see how your skin looks. I have been going now for a while and i have really nice skin now.

    Good Luck!
When I went for the first time I took all the medications I was taking with me so that they knew 100% what it was since some medications don't mix well. I also took the face products I was using at the time, again so they could see what I was using. I wore make up to mine, didn't seem to be a problem.

How many years does it take to be a dermatologist?

    I heard it's:

    4 years of University

    4 years of medical school

    1 year of internship

    3 years of dermatology school.

That's 12 years of school. That would mean I would actually be a dermatologist and probably start a family at 30? For me me that's kind of late. I wanted it sooner. ^^ Is there any other way?How many years does it take to be a dermatologist?
If you want to get through school sooner, being any kind of doctor probably just isn't an option.

Can I ask dermatologist to prescribe me different medicine?

Just in case, one don't work, the other one will.

Since I don't have insurance, i can only go there one or twice and still be able to afford the prescription. Will dermatologist do that? Can I ask dermatologist to prescribe me different medicine?
you can always call them if your first one doesn't work, and they'll most likely send a different prescription to your pharmacy. I've had to do it a couple of times with my neurologist for migraine meds! It's no big dealCan I ask dermatologist to prescribe me different medicine?
yes, commercials always say to ask your dr. if the medicine is right for you, so of course you can request something else if the other is not working. but be careful when switching medicines.

Any Dermatologist have any tips on how to become a Dermatologist?

Like school, what you really need to know, and things you should be aware of, etc.Any Dermatologist have any tips on how to become a Dermatologist?
Not a dermatologist, just a nurse but can tell you to expect lots of school, then more school. Big educational loans, lots of sleepless nights and that doesn't even include learning your specialty. My doc was a gastroenterologist. He was internal medicine first, then went on to learn his specialty. Had to become board certified too. Just be prepared to work hard and dedicate your life to it if that is what you really want. It is a rewarding profession.

How long will it take to become a dermatologist?

Well, i want to become a dermatologist in skin care or hair. Right now, i'm only 14 years old but i'm trying to figure out what i want to do with my life. I want to have children when i'm older and get married and everything but when i calculate the amount of years, I will be between age 28 and 30 before i actually start getting the real checks! Does somebody know the real amount of time it takes to become a dermatologist because i've been finding so many different answers. Please, somebody help me. :xHow long will it take to become a dermatologist?
Well there is different roads that can take you to becoming a dermatologist, however the standard one is...

    4 years undergrad degree

4 year MD or DO degree

    1 year internship

    3-4 years Derm residency

Total: 12-13 year after high school

However this road can be shortened by different programs (look at early admission pathways) or finishing college faster than 4 years. Dermatology is one of the hardest areas of medicine to get into so make sure you learn how to study effectively now because in college and medical school you will need to compete. How long will it take to become a dermatologist?
im planning on going to either business (as a stockbroker, real estate...) or something in the medical field as well. it takes 4 yrs to become a nurse and a few more to become a doctor. you will spend most of the time in a university and will finish until ur around 30. getting all that money will be done by loans or family that u have to pay back.
I think its about the same time it takes to become a doctor if not more because that is a specialist I would look it up on the Internet but doctors tend to go to school for at least 6-8 years

are you sure you want to spend your youth in a university?

What is the best career in your opinion: Dermatologist, Orthodontist, or Hematologist?

I want to know which one is easier to be, and how much salary and other details on each career such as years it takes to be one. Thank you so much. What is the best career in your opinion: Dermatologist, Orthodontist, or Hematologist?
All of these jobs I would not call easy. All of them require that you go to school for a certain amount of time. To become an orthodontist, you normally have to go to dental school, and then specialize in orthodontics, and with dermatology and with hematology, you need to go to medical school to become a regular MD first before you can go onto these specialties. They all make really good $$$

What to expect when going to see a dermatologist ?

So tomorrow I am seeing a dermatologist for the first time. I heard that you are supposed to go once a year (I think) just to make sure everything is okay... I am going for that reason. I wanna make sure my skin is okay.

What should I expect when I go?

What kind of questions should I ask her to make sure my skin is okay?

Thank youWhat to expect when going to see a dermatologist ?
expect to wait- lol its just like a regular doctors office

when you get to your exam room an intern will (ususally) come and look at you, and ask you some routine questions- they are just there to learn to be dermatologists

then the dermatologist will come in, ask why your there, do you have n e questions or concerns, etc...

you should ask what u r concerned about:

    - is it possible i have dry or oily skin

    - is it possible i have excema

    - what are some anti-acne treatments you recommend

    - what are some lotions and moistorizers i should use

    - how can i decrease my skin cancer rate

    etc...

you dont ask all of these questions, those are just some examples that you CAN ask and then you can elaborate

Good Luck :)What to expect when going to see a dermatologist ?
I have gone and i would expect it to be brief, she'll most likely just look at your pores, and just examine your skin (haha) just tell her about how many hours you spend in the sun or uv rays. tell her alll products that you use for your skin (moisturizers, acne solutions, lotions, tanning lotrions and so on) ask if there is anything wrong with your skin and what you can do to improve its health =)

good luck! any questions that i didnt answer? feel free to e-mail me!
    They will probably ask you...

How many times do you wash your face?

What type of make-up do you wear?

Stuff that involves your skin and they will probably give you some samples for preventing acne and a little brochure that tells you EVERYTHING about acne
Its like a 5 minute appointment.

You go in. Sit. The person comes in.

Looks at your face. Gives you a prescription if you need one.

    Then you leave.
well when i went they ask you simple questions like are you allergic to something they mostly know what it is when they see you, so no need to worry

Should i get prescription acne medication from a dermatologist, or should I stick to my overthecounter cream?

Normally I have mild acne but all of a sudden breaking out like crazy. Should i get prescription medication from the dermatologist or should I stick to my clean and clear advantage acne control kit? I just turned 15.Should i get prescription acne medication from a dermatologist, or should I stick to my overthecounter cream?
I am also an acne sufferer, and usually my over the counter stuff works pretty well, but when I have a bad flareup that won't go away, my doctor puts me on Minicin or Tetracycline for a few weeks and this helps a great deal! I love Clean and Clear Products myself, and use then regularily. Talk it over with an adult, also, to see what they think. Good luck on getting clear!Should i get prescription acne medication from a dermatologist, or should I stick to my overthecounter cream?
Go to a dermatologists because, u want the pimples to go away, not just some to go away so that its back to mild.

    Visit www.acne.org

They have a page for reviews on different acne products you might find helpful. I'm using neutrogena right now and am seeing results.

Some home remedies I've heard of are asprin masks, applecider vinegar, toothpaste, look any up online. Good luck!Whats the best way to get rid of acne without proactiv and seeing a dermatologist?
watch what you drink and eat.soda, oily foods, butter, etcI notice if I eat a pizza i'll get 1 or 2.it depends on the person.
read tips on treating acne, skincare and home remedies on this site
Drink lots of water. Keep your hands off your face, and always wash the makeup off. I use proactiv and it's great, but if you don't want to spend that much money, find a toner that has witch hazel in it and use a mild benzolyl peroxide cream like clearasil.

Use makeup that is oil free and noncomedagenic (sp?). Benefit also makes a good product if you get big cyst like zits called Boo Boo Zap! that works well.

Good luck. If it is really bad, I would suggest Proactiv or seeing a dermatologist.

How can i get rid of my oily skin and whiteheads without going to dermatologist?

Well, you are never going to get rid of oily skin. If you've got it, you probably always will to some degree. What you have to do is start a regime -- cleanser, toner and moisturizer. I find that cream cleansers are just too heavy for my oily skin, so I use a foaming cleanser instead that does a good job. Use a toner with no alcohol in it as alcohol tends to dry out the skin, making your skin produce even more oil. Use different day and night moisturizer. The day one should have SPF protection; in a night moisturizer, look for one with vitamin A in it. This is an active ingredient in one of the most widely used prescribed creams for acne. Not as strong of course, but it helps. Also, I would recommend using a deep cleaning mask 2-3 times a week. I like to use a clay mask myself. Some people also exfoliate as well. I find it too harsh for my skin to exfoliate daily, but don't, don't, don't use a cheap, walnut shell type product. Biore puts out a decent one that is much gentler, and there are others as well. All of these products can be found for under ten dollars at your local drugstore.

By following this regimen strictly, my skin clears up dramatically with only the occasional pimple. How can i get rid of my oily skin and whiteheads without going to dermatologist?

    I really like PanOxyl

    it is sold at CVS
It is important to wash your face every morning and every evening. You should also try Suave Sea Breeze clay mask, It cleans your pores extremely well.
St Ives Clear pore cleanser does a good job and smells nice too. Be careful to not over wash... this can dry the skin and cause you to overproduce natural oils compounding your problem. Also be careful with other perfumed soaps and cleansers as these can possibly irritate the skin, again making things worse, like causing small break outs and redness from allergic reaction.

If it is persistent, you would be wise to see your doctor. Acne is one stigmatism that you do not have to live with. I'm assuming you're in your teens or early 20's, keep in mind a lot of this is caused by hormonal development and will pass with time, but I understand how hard it can be in the immediate present. Hope all of this advice helps out and good luck :-)

The more you wash your face with a product that is for oily skin, your skin actually produces more oil because it dries it out too much. You can use a mattifying gel called OC8, it will take care of the oiliness. You can try Cetaphil cleanser also.

What can I expect to happen at the dermatologist?

My acne has gotten really bad in the past couple of months.

I am going to a dermatologist in a few weeks.

What kind of medcine do you think they will give me?

Will it be something I take or something I put on my face?

And how long do you think it would take for my face to clear up?What can I expect to happen at the dermatologist?
When I first went to the dermatologist, after my examination, he suggested that I go on Accutane.. But because of insurance stuff ';they had to try an alternative first.'; The first medicine they gave me was an antibiotic (it was a huge pill) and a topical cream to go with it. (It's troublesome putting cream all over your face and back every day...) And after being on that for a month or so, I got HORRIBLE cramps, like you're sweating, can't stand, feel like you're going to puke and crap.. (lol) and one day I swallowed one of the pills without water and the next day, I had acid reflux. After three days of pain, I went to the doctor, found out it had gave me gastritis, and got meds for that. After that, I finally went on accutane. And what do you know, after 5 years of severe acne, I'm generally more clear skinned than everyone else. I'm still on accutane... There are some down sides, but IF you need that, your doctor will explain them..What can I expect to happen at the dermatologist?
First time I went, they gave me this Benzol Peroxide (.25%), a topical cream, and antibiotics. None of That worked. Thankfully, my acne cleared by itself and now, I'm left with ugly red scars. He then gave me this laser treatment. :) I haven't seen any results yet because it'll take a few more treatments to really see them.
first they'll probably give you a topical cream. oral medicine is for more severe cases where nothin has worked. it'll probably take a good 6 weeks to see drastic results.

Yes he can, however, there are also some wonderful over-the-counter products that work well too. BeautiControls Dermakable is designed for just the problem and works well to even out the skin.

There isn't a specific age, but if you are under 18 you will need a parent's signature. It is always a good idea to get all moles looked at by a dermatologist due to the rise in skin cancer. How old do you have to be to get a mole removed from a dermatologist?

My dermatologist says proactiv will not work on my skin, is that true?

I have fair, oily, and a little bit dry skin.My dermatologist says proactiv will not work on my skin, is that true?
Proactive does not work. I would try the nuetrogena wave, or I use biore products. I use the silicic acid wipes in the morning and at night in the shower I use the ice wash or once a week the exfolient. afterwards i always use the moisterizor. Be careful not to over do it.My dermatologist says proactiv will not work on my skin, is that true?
it is probably true since it is coming

    from your doctor.

and it is also different for other people.
I don't know... but it didn't work on my skin, either. I tried it for six months and it didn't do diddley squat.
Your doctor with the degree in medicine told you. We cant tell you anything different.
yes. i've heard proactive will dry out your skin if its too dry and you should always listen to your doctor. they arent one of your friends plotting to make you look bad cause theyre jelous :P
    some people it doesnt
Its your dermaologist. Hey they are the professionals. They have a degree and they have probaby dealt with many situations like this becauase alot of people deal with acne. A docter is a professional and they should know what is right for your skin. Many people think proactive works. Its risk free and many people use it. Its the leading brand of acne care sold in America. If proactive doesnt work out for you try clean and clear. Or neutrgena. All these brands are good and great for your type of skin. It depends on your skin though. If it makes it worse stop using it immediately. I knew someone who used proactive and she said it really worked for her. Its worth trying!

    Hope this helped!

    Good Luck!!!
so glad to see if u r experiencing a problem u have gone to dermatologist. Please, take there advice! why even ask on here. good luck,,,,,,,u will be fine ,,i'm sure!
Your doctor is right. Proactiv will most likely make your acne worse. I used it and it made my skin horrible. It got extreeeeeeeeeemely dry, red, irritated, and gross. It actually made me break out more. So aside from having pimples I had really dry skin. DO NOT USE PROACTIV!!!
yes you should try the wave or clean and clear that works for me and always put face moisturizer on your face!!
Im not to sure if it will work on your skin or not.

But I do know that my friend bought Pro Activ and

everytime he would skip using it, he would get worse

acne then before he even started using Pro Activ.
    It's probably true.

It only works on certain skin types.

I got it for me. And it was terrible. It made my skin worse.

    Good Luck

    :)
i have tried proactiv, and it didnt help me at all, my acne got worse

Whats the process for going to a dermatologist?

How does it work? do you go in for a consultation? what are the prices? Do you just call and say hey i have some acne?Whats the process for going to a dermatologist?
Just call and tell them you would like to make an appointment with the dermatologist or skin specialist. I go to a skin specialist and she had really help me improve my skin. I no longer have bad break outs!! My first appointment was a consultation, but she also did a skin treatment on me, so I guess it might depend on how booked up their day might be. Good Luck with it. Oh, my consultation/treatment was $75.00.

Do I need to go through the medical school process to be a dermatologist?

Is there an alternative road? Can I go to a medical school that specialize in dermatology? I don't want to go to premed, then med school and then residence. Do I need to go through the medical school process to be a dermatologist?
Dermatology is one of the more competitive medical residencies and if that is your career goal, then not only do you have to go through the pre-med, medical school and residency process, you have to be good at it.Do I need to go through the medical school process to be a dermatologist?
Sorry, that's what you have to do. Dermatology requires medical school, which requires pre-med, which in total is 8 years of college before residency. If you don't want to do that much work, pick another field of study.
you should look for a college that specializes in dermatology. I would just google good dermatology schools.

    Good Luck!
you should go through a medical school for the proper practise..

    Good Luck...

How much dose it cost for a dermatologist?

i have really bad acne so my mom says i should go i have insurance . My acne is bad only in one spot so is there really a cost? How much dose it cost for a dermatologist?
If you have insurance, then you probably just have a to pay a co-pay for a visit - probably around $25How much dose it cost for a dermatologist?
You should call your insurance company and see what they cover exactly and how much. Most will pay 80% of the visit and you will pay 20%. Some just have a copay where you pay a flat $20 (depending on your insurance the copay couled be $10, $25, etc.). If money is an issue when you see the doctor you need to tell him you are on a limited budget and that you will need him to prescribe you something that won't cost a fortune with your insurance. They might either give you samples of let the pharmacist call them back for a cheaper version of whatever he prescribed you if you go to pick up the meds and find that they are to expensive.
go get insurance it will not cost u nothing . asap
just use proactive skin care it works awesome!! give it time to work but. Don't be impatient
there is always a cost for the doctors, make sure its good insurance and ask if they will cover what you want done. sometimes insurance companies don't like to pay for ';cosmetic'; things.
The appointment costs $250 but i think the cost depends on the quality of the dermatologist.
if you have insurance it wont be much at all. i dont know where you live or what insurance you have but i only pay $5 for my dermatologist and doctor visits. youll have to make sure that the dermatologist you go to will accept your insurance though. also there is the cost for the medicines she prescribes for you, which should also be very cheap with insurance. good luck! my dermatologist saved my life!

I would not look on the Internet or in the phone book. Ask any of your doctors, friends, family, coworkers, or acquaintances for references. Skin is nothing to play with.
the fastest way would be go to your family doc.let him set you up,he will know the best also.

  • Can I make an appt with a dermatologist without having any health insurance?

I think I need to have a rather large mole on my neck sent for a biopsy and I do not have any insurance. I have a referal from my primary but I have heard that not only is it difficult to get an appt with a non-emergency request, but alos that a lot of doctors simply won't see someone without any insurance. Can I make an appt with a dermatologist without having any health insurance?
Hi. If you have no insurance, most doctors will request that you pay for your visit when you go there. Dermatologists are very expensive. When i went recently, the visit alone was $200.00 ( not including what she did ). I had to pay the whole amount due before i left ( i have no health insurance ). Biopsies are very costly also. Yes, it is very hard to get appointments also. I had somewhat of an emergency, and had to wait 2 months. Welcome to the wonderful world of health care. I've never had a doctor turn me down for not having insurance, i just have to pay for it when i go ( which can be difficult sometimes ). Best of luck to you :-)Can I make an appt with a dermatologist without having any health insurance?
They will see you without insurance, but you have to be self pay.

You could go to a hospital dermatology clinic where they usually have a sliding scale.

Tell dermatologist your PCP said you needed to be seen right away.

If you needed a referral from your PCP %26amp; you can't get a fast appt. ask your MD to call for you.

    Best of luck.
It's possible but you have to pay for the appointment yourself.
They can't turn you way u will be private pay it will be expensive but sounds like you need to go good luck

How expensive is a visit to the dermatologist?

I made an appt., and they said they would not be able to take me in until late october after filling out massive paperwork. It's insane! But i agreed, what could i do, they are the only one in range, and got it set up.

Later on I stopped over at my parents and they told me that it will run me $500 and they still might not treat it, Now, they can be wrong sometimes but I'm just wondering if it is actually that much? A normal dr. visit here w/no insurance costs around $80, so I was guessing the dermatologist, diagnosis and medication, shouldn't go over $300 at the worst. But if it runs over $500, thats a week's paycheck, I can't do that just for a simple rash. So how expensive are they (on average) and is there a cheaper solution? How expensive is a visit to the dermatologist?
well... going to a dermatologist can be quite expensive.... and i think your parents are right...it might get to $500.... u can call first to ask how much it would be... they can give you a range ....For my suggestion, you can visit your local physician first ....and have it checked....they're cheaper than dermatologist....hope my answer helps... =)

Should i go to the allergist or dermatologist for a skin rash?

i have had a rash almost every day, that occurs on different places all over my body and itches like crazy! my scalp even itches! It has been going on for about 7 months now! I also got a welt on my back tonight from itching!

I need to go to the doctor, but should I go to an allergist or dermatologist?Should i go to the allergist or dermatologist for a skin rash?
I think you should firstly go to an allergist who would perform a skin test to see what you are allergic to as this sounds like you are allergic to something you come into contact everyday.

The skin test is not painful, they put the allergens on your skin and then scrape the skin and let it set then wait 10-15 mins and if you have an allergic reaction then a small rash will form at the site where the allergen was put on your skinShould i go to the allergist or dermatologist for a skin rash?
I'd recommend a dermatologist first to rule out any serious conditions which the allergist may not recognize.
Consult with a general physician/or skin specialist,-its a minor problem-it may be happened due to your diet habit or foods -that your body does not permit--Don`t be worried-Take anti allergent medicine and use Laoto calamime lotion or skin cream as per the advice of your doctor after bath, to make your body cool and avoid scraching.
Dermatologist, they'll run a scratch test on you and see if it really is an allergy, it sounds like eczema to me.
It sounds like exzema to me. I have had it all my life. It helps to have a fan and humidifier in your room. Don't wear polyester either only cotton fabrics! Watch what kind of detergent you are using on clothes use non scented. Watch what lotions you are using dont use scented same thing with perfume! Being in cold areas helps. If your hands itch stick them in the freezer for a little bit! Good luck!
    Go to dermatologist...derma means skin.

Is a referral required to see a dermatologist?

Can anyone recommend a dermatologist in Canberra?

I'm wanting to get rid of my acne scars.

Thanks. Is a referral required to see a dermatologist?
a referal from docter is required and they often recomend the bestIs a referral required to see a dermatologist?
It depends on your insurance. If you don't have insurance, than no, but you will have to pay out of pocket. If you do have insurance, than it just depends on what they require.

Sorry I've never heard of Canberra, but you might want to include the state in your answer as it may be possible that there are several Canberras.

You did not state your age, but, I will assume that you are in your teens. You do have to answer to Mom %26amp; Dad, but it is your skin, and if you were my son, I would much rather you have this mark removed that to have a tattoo.

You have to see a dermatologist first, and then after they assess what exactly needs to be done, they can give you a fee. You also have to book a second appt. for this procedure.

Is it better to see a dermatologist or go to a spa for the care of my skin?

I am 27 yrs old. I work at an automotive shop and live by the water, so there is a lot of humidity. I'm a single mom of 4 kids, so I have signs of not enough rest. My pores from my face are getting huge, I get a lot of white/blk heads, my dark circles are always there. I wanted to start getting facials, but I don't know if that's just a waste of my money, or should I just see a dermatologist. I don't know which one is worth my hard earned money, and which one will work. I'm tired of these huge pores!!!! I've tried a couple of regular brands but nothing seems to work on my face....I want a smooth face again!!!! I am fair skinned and I just started tanning, and I know it's unhealthy, but that's why I don't know which one to go with. The tanning also cause my pores to get huge.Is it better to see a dermatologist or go to a spa for the care of my skin?
I'm a medical esthetician in Florida and have battled with my own skin with Derms and Spa's before being a part of the field. To be honest Derm's majority of the time want to directly head for drastic and abrasive and or medication when it comes to a skin condition. If you go to a Spa, please go to a Licensed Medical Spa that a physician runs and or owns. (Just ask them when you call to make the Appt.) There you will have more options as far as regular maintenance facials, microderm tx and or chemical peels that will significantly make differences in pore size and texture of your skin. These treatments are also more affordable and less abrasive than doing something through a derm office. Also, if they are licensed under a physician you can ask about the OBAGI system. Which is excellent for sun damaged, chemically exposed or just clogged problematic skin. This system is an all around skin type miracle worker. It is somewhat of a process to go through because it takes a full 18 wks to go through the whole system....but absolutely worth it. I have seen dramatic results in every patient whose been on the system. It has retin A and hydriquinone in the system. Let me know how you progress. Good LuckIs it better to see a dermatologist or go to a spa for the care of my skin?
i would see an esthitition, they are very knowledgable in skin care and can reccomend a daily routine. Schedule a facial somewhere, they are less expensive more pampering, and you can visit one often. It doesnt sound like you need medication like a dermatoligist can prescribe. you just need some advice and a little maintnance
well would you go to a vet to have your sex checked, go to the doc., i was there today and had a sun cancer removed from my arm, to many surfing days in the sun when i was younger
Go to the dermatologist first. She what he/she says and they may be able to give you medicine or the information to make your skin look great. Then ask the Dr. if you should go to a spa to get the extra. Dermatologist will give you the best because they are Dr's. Good luck!!!~~~~~~~~~~
Go to the dermatologist, then if you need it they can recommend a facialist.
Just invest in an amazing regime - I started to use the re9 regime last fall (It's like a mini facial twice a day) instantly my skin showed drastic results. I also suffer (I have 3 kids) dark circles due to being tired and anemia the cream in the regime helps. I'd invest in something like this instead of doing both.

A spa upkeep and a MD (unless you have acne) may just put you on creams with a lot of chemicals.
Spa's are only short lived treatments, go and see a doctor or dermatologist and drink gallons of water. Good luck
Either one will tell you to stop tanning, and to wear more sunscreen. Are there any unusual bumps or uneven freckles on your face? It sounds like you have oily skin from the pores and getting white and blackheads. First, you need to care for your skin - cleanse and moisturize your skin, and use an oily skin care product (whichever one you want). Cleanse before you go to be at night, and early in the morning when you wake up. Use a clay mask once a week to help with the oiliness. If you have any unusual skin problems, see the doctor. If you want to feel special, go to a spa and have a facial. If you have any problems with your skin, talk to them. They'll be able to guide you. Remember, no tanning!
Derematologist. A spa is pretty routine, so a dermatologist can help you better as an individual and what's right for you.
I would go to a dermatologist
go to a dermatologist a spa may make you skin feel better but a dermatologist will make your skin better
    go to both

An useful remedy for pimples is zinc. Which can be taken in a dose of 50 mg daily for a month and then reduce the dose. More such solutions at http://solutionsforpimples.blogspot.com/
Using a banishing cream or bleaching cream can help sometimes with the redness/brown scars that are left behind. You'd have to be careful and read the label if you have sensitive skin though.

I'm not sure if there are any drugs available for this.

Be sure to exfoliate regularly too.

Below are links to a banishing cream and excellent exfoliating system (I use them both!).
take 400 mg vitamin E capsule everyday. Rest u can take a lemon squeezed in 1 glas water. dont take any more medicins. just exercise 30 mins. u can also massage with almond oil for 15 min everyday . good luck thats what helped me after using all the costly products in market
Fade them away using papaya kojic and licorice base soap and cream which are available online. These work wonders.

Maybe it will work on you too.

  • What is the best route to becoming a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist?

[ i am still in highschool]

but Should I go to a community college?

or is community college a waste of 2 years of time?

also what's the benefit of going or not going to a community college [ i'm talking about becoming a dermatologist/plastic surgeon not anything else]What is the best route to becoming a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist?
The best route would be to go to a top 4-year university for your bachelor's (Ivy league, Hopkins, Stanford, and similar-tiered schools). Plastics and derm are among the most competitive specialties to get into (although they might not still be by the time you're applying to residency....8+ years down the road). To have a better chance at matching into one of those fields you need to go to a very strong med school, and to get into a very strong med school you need to go to a very good college. Yes, it's still possible to break into those fields from lower-ranked schools, but it's more difficult.

You cannot go to med school with just community college, although some people do go to a CC and transfer to a university. The main pro is that you'll save tuition money. The main drawback is that it's tough to transfer into the top colleges from a CC, and you would be missing out on 2 years of opportunities. The specialties you mentioned look for a research background, and the earlier you start in research the better....a CC is not going to give you that background, whereas a 4-year university will. Yes, you could try to get involved in research after you transfer, but that would leave you only 1 year (instead of 3) to produce something valuable before applying to med school.

Is it hard to become a dermatologist these days?

I heard that it is hard to get into a Dermatology residency program after medical school because that is the feild of medicine a lot of medical students want to go into?

    Is that true?

And what do I have to do to stand out and get that Derm residency? Is it hard to become a dermatologist these days?
always hard. lots of med students do consider it, but honestly, if you can hold your own and fight like heck, then you should have no problem making it.
