I would say seeing a dermatologist may be a good path to go down. Although, be cautious because sometimes they can over medicate like most conventional doctors usually do. I've recently heard of a treatment called Levulan Photodynamic Therapy. It is an acne treatment that uses Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid), a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated with a blue light. It is said to be a permanent solution for those with moderate to severe cystic acne. Perhaps bring this up during your next doctor's visit. Good Luck!! :)Is seeing a dermatologist for acne any different than getting a prescription for acne by a doctor?
A dermatologist IS a doctor. Yes, it's a good idea. Amoxicillin is not a very effective antibiotic for acne. A dermatologist will be more familiar than a primary care practitioner with various topical and oral acne medications.
