How does a dermatologist check a mole for cancer?

One of my moles fell off and I'm going to check with a dermatologist. But I'd like to know what they look for, how they do it, and what they might say. I know they are looking for possible cancer, but what do they do technicaly?

Thanks for your time! How does a dermatologist check a mole for cancer?
They would have to do a biopsy. How does a dermatologist check a mole for cancer?
They use a substance to numb the arera so there will be no pain .They do a biopsy by taking out a small tissue sample and send it to a lab which usually takes a few days to be returned. You will see the Dermotologist again and he will give you the results.

I had this done with two Facial molds one was ok and the other was malignant which was removed. All procedures are painless.

Recovery is very high .I was told that there was only a 1% chance that it could return. Of course this depends on the type of the maligancy.
They take a biopsy if warning signs are there. They send it to a lab which looks for specific types of cells and determines if it is cancer, or benign. Ive had several that are cancerous, but harmless. Stay out of the sun.
they just examine the mole---use their weird machines, and then--- pop! they know
